Changes at the Food Shelf
(ABC 6 NEWS) — The kids are out of school, and with gas and food prices climbing, more people are looking to local food shelves for help.
Since May, Channel One Food Shelf has had more than 300 new families sign up for assistance.
That demand, paired with the usual drop in donations during the summer is causing the food bank to look at other options to get enough food to go around.
They’re working with food manufacturers, and they’ve changed they way people shop.
“We have cut back a little bit as far as how many times families can come visit so we make sure we have enough food to server everyone,” says Charla Irwin-Buncher of the Channel One Food Bank.
Channel One is also teaching people ways to save on food, energy, and childcare.
